Hot Rods To Hell
Unintentionally funny juvenile delinquent picture that has developed something of a cult following in recent years. Andrews and Crain are a husband and wife who set off through the California desert in their sedan with their two children, Mock and Stafford, to begin a new life as owner-operators of a motel. The trip turns into a nightmare when the family is assaulted by teenage rebel Farmer and he...mehrr repulsive boy friends, Bertoya and Kirkwood. By the time Andrews and his clan arrive at their dream location, their nerves are frazzled. To their horror, the motel is run-down, and Andrews learns that the former owner allowed it to be used by unruly teenagers for illicit drinking. Andrews sets out for his brother's house which is 52 miles away. On the road, the youths attack full-force, and Andrews finally snaps. He stops the car, blinds Bertoya with his headlights, causing his hot-rod to crash, then hauls the young hoods out of their car. Andrews forces the youngsters to promise to behave like sensible adults or face a long stretch in jail. The punks opt for reformation, and Andrews decides to return and make a go of running the motel. Originally shot for television, it was later deemed too earthy, so MGM decided to release HOT RODS TO HELL in the theaters. Nowadays, the film turns up on television regularly with no cuts. Music provided by Mickey Rooney, Jr., and his forgettable combo.
