Bright Leaf
Gesellschaftsdrama aus den amerikanischen Südstaaten des 19. Jahrhunderts: Ein junger Abenteurer kehrt in seine Heimatstadt zurück, um sich an dem Mann zu rächen, der einst seinen Vater ruinierte. Der Selbstmord des Widersachers treibt jedoch auch ihn in den Ruin_ die Tochter des Geschäftsmannes, die er heiratete, nutzt die Ehe, um ihn zugrunde zu richten.
Glory Alley
On the eve of his attempt to win the championship, promising middleweight Socks Barbarrosa (Ralph Meeker) panics and disappears, disappointing his neighbors on the New Orleans Latin Quarter side street known as Glory Alley. Particularly upset is the blind father (Kurt Kasznar) of his dancer girl friend, Angela (Leslie Caron). Socks then fights in the Korean War, earning the Congressional Medal of ...mehrHonor, but though Angela has never doubted his courage, the others in the Alley still do. Only after Socks reenters the ring and wins the crown do they finally believe in him again. Caron's steamy rendition of "St. Louis Blues," accompanied by Louis Armstrong, is a highlight, but in general this weak psychological film is not up to the usually high standards of director Raoul Walsh.
